Recovery and Follow-Up

In most cases, a surgical date can be scheduled early in the process while pre-operative requirements are completed in parallel — so you are not waiting longer than necessary. Before surgery, your file is reviewed by an anaesthesiologist and any required pre-operative testing is completed to confirm it is safe to proceed. Our team coordinates all of this on your behalf and guides you through the process from start to finish.
For orthopaedic consultations, we generally require current X-rays of the affected area. In some cases, advanced imaging such as an MRI may also be needed to provide your orthopaedic surgeon with a complete picture before your consultation. If additional imaging is required, our team will walk you through exactly what is needed and can arrange private imaging in a timely fashion — so this does not become a barrier to moving forward. Please bring any imaging you already have when you contact us, and our team will confirm whether anything further is required.
Many hip procedures are performed on a day surgery basis. For hip replacement, a one to two night stay may be included in your fee depending on the facility and your individual circumstances. Your surgeon will confirm what to expect during your consultation.

Virtual follow-up appointments with your surgeon are available throughout your recovery, so distance is not a barrier to ongoing care. For many procedures, Gateway Surgery's national surgeon network also provides local support in your home province, ensuring continuity of care close to home. Physiotherapy and rehabilitation can be coordinated through Gateway Surgery or at a provider of your choice.

Your wellbeing does not end at discharge.
