I came from Victoria BC to Gateway Surgery in Calgary to get a complete left hip replacement. Waiting until mid 2027 at home was an unthinkable option! My experience was first rate from start to finish. Dr. Emmanuel Illica has great bedside manner and I have found that to be unusual for a surgeon. I never felt like a number or merely a replacement part. I am now 2 weeks post surgery and in recovery.  The entire team focuses on demonstrating a high quality of care from before the surgery to post op and thus far through the recovery process. The accessibility to 2 nurses 7 days weekly from 7 a.m. - 11:00 p.m. is incredible. Ones issues are addressed in a very timely manner.   I am thoroughly satisfied thus far and I would highly recommend Gateway Surgery for joint replacement if you are anywhere in Western Canada. The only reason I don't include eastern Canada, is because a long flight mere days post major surgery is not much "fun". My 75 minute flight to Victoria was very doable. I have never personally experienced the private medical system before however, my first and only experience with Gateway has been beyond exceptional. The staff has been so helpful and timely with all of my questions and concerns and have made the experience so positive. Resting at home now with private total knee replacement surgery 2 weeks behind me.  Many thanks to Gateway Surgery in Calgary for organizing the myriad details and delivering a world class service.  Dr. Costa is brilliant.  Offering modern robotics, spinal anesthetic and nerve block pump, my pain has not once risen above 2/10.  Such a gift! From the initial visit with the Calgary office my experience with gateway has been nothing but positive.
Their staff has been very helpful. The service they provided from appointment at X-ray in Calgary to travel reservation from Edmonton to Montreal was flawless.
I have informed many about Gateway and will continue to inform others.
The follow up has been great. Several calls immediately following surgery and again from doctor directly at regular milestones since.

Gateway Surgery - has been an excellent experience. The professionalism , from the Staff ie. Taylor Steffensen, has been amazing. Dr Costa has helped my life get back on track with my new knee. First contact at Gateway was Michelle and then Taylor who was instrumental in handling the process of  facilitating the tests required, the consultation and arranging for out of province surgery.  All details were handled professionally.  Taylor was a pleasure to deal with.

The consultation with Dr, Spiess was clear, friendly, respectful and put me at ease.  On the day of surgery, Dr. Spiess and the staff were outstanding and supportive.   The surgery for L4-S1  laminectomy and L4-S1 discectomies went well.  After having spent the last two years in pain, can now report pain free.
The post operative care from the nurses, Barb and Twyla has been exceptional and they have gone above and beyond.  Thank you.
