Frequently Asked Questions About Private Shoulder Arthroscopy

Who is a good candidate for shoulder arthroscopy?
Shoulder arthroscopy may be recommended if you have ongoing shoulder pain, instability, or limited motion caused by issues like rotator cuff tears, impingement, SLAP tears, or labral injuries. It is often considered when physiotherapy, medication, or injections have not provided enough relief. A shoulder arthroscopy surgeon will review your imaging and medical history to confirm whether arthroscopic treatment is appropriate.

Arthroscopy is commonly used to treat:

  • Rotator cuff tears
  • Labral tears, SLAP lesions, and Bankart lesions
  • Shoulder instability
  • Shoulder impingement
  • Biceps pathology (including eligibility for biceps tenodesis surgery)
  • Cartilage and joint surface concerns

Your shoulder surgery specialist will recommend the right treatment based on your diagnosis and activity goals.

Recovery varies depending on the procedure. Many patients begin early guided exercises to restore range of motion, followed by progressive strengthening. Your surgeon and physiotherapist will outline a clear recovery plan before and after surgery so you know exactly what to expect.
All surgeries carry some risk, though complications are uncommon. If concerns arise, Gateway helps you navigate them. Your surgeon provides follow-up care as needed, and our team remains available to support your recovery and answer questions throughout the process.
